September 26, 2019
When he was a kid, Marcelo was a problem child, always fighting in the streets. He played all of the sports growing up, like basketball and football, but would get into fights during every game. When he got older, Marcelo decided that if he’s going to fight, he may as well do it in a sport that pays for it. He was fortunate enough to find a kickboxing gym near his home, and that initial training evolved into MMA at 16 years old. Marcelo was a big fan of the fighters from the PRIDE FC era.
Marcelo got his “Pitbull” nickname from his first boxing trainer, who used to have a lot of pitbulls because he owned a kennel. When Marcelo started training, he didn’t like to get hit, so he would spar like a crazy man and punch like he wanted to kill someone. His coach said he was more like one of his pitbulls than one of his fighters. Fast-forward many years later, and Marcelo insists he has matured both as a fighter and as a person and is now a true martial artist.
You’ll notice lots of tattoos on Marcelo, but the one that means the most is the script on his right side, which tells about his grandfather protecting him from heaven. Marcelo fights because it’s his passion, he could not live without it. It’s fun and makes him happy. In addition, he fights to provide for his family and to entertain his fans, as well as to support his teammates at his gym.
