Started wrestling at 5 years old and grew up in a wrestling family, his uncle was a 2-Time State Champion, he wanted to carry on that lineage as a grappler, it was very important to him. After his last college season he had his first son and he felt it wasn’t fun anymore, until he followed MMA fighter Efrain Escudero and saw what he did, how he made wrestling fresh again. He says that the pressure that wrestlers have is unbreakable, he always stays in his opponents face, clinching and looking for takedowns. His cardio would be one of his strengths and that’s because of his wrestling career. He calls wrestlers as “sharks”, sharks never evolved in history, they continue doing the same and they still are one of the most dominant animals in their habitat.
